Forecasts smooth out downpours. Weather models work on a grid several kilometres wide, so an intense local thunderstorm can be averaged into something much lighter. Ratings blend several independent forecasts to even that out, and the reliability note tells you when they disagree. For what is falling right now, use the live radar — the ratings are a plan, not an observation.
